Key Features
The Acoustic Energy AE500 Bookshelf Speakers are the smallest speakers of the upmarket 500 series. They are two-way stand mounts which share new bonded woven carbon fibre drivers with the other larger floorstanders of the 500 series. These carbon fibre drivers take the form of a 25mm tweeter dome and a 125mm mid/bass driver.
Their great stiffness-to-mass ratio allows for better pistonic motion, free of flexing or bending which might negatively influence sound delivery. Moreover, the AE500s take inspiration from the cabinet design of the more expensive Reference models by incorporating Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) cabinetry. This 18mm thick material comprises 6mm MDF, 3mm bitumen, and another 9mm of MDF for reduced resonance and colouration.
These beautifully made high-end speakers from Acoustic Energy's 500 Series perform effortlessly to create an open yet cohesive soundstage. With better bass response thanks to a rear slot port, and well-matched neutrality across both drivers, you won't be disappointed with the value for money of these bookshelf speakers.

The AE500s are compact standmount loudspeakers which form part of Acoustic Energy's prestigious 500 Series. This series, which also includes the AE509 and AE520 floorstanders, represents a significant advancement in audio quality, materials, and cabinet finish from its award-winning predecessors, the AE100 and AE300. The AE500 stands out with its newly developed carbon fibre tweeter and mid/bass drivers, designed for superior pistonic power and accuracy. These advanced features are inspired by the brand's renowned ceramic aluminium drivers but bring an added layer of self-damping for a smoother, more transparent sound.
The Acoustic Energy 500 Series also impresses with its 125mm mid/bass drivers. Equipped with new oversized 35mm voice coils, these drivers offer low thermal compression and a very high motor force factor, resulting in a highly dynamic yet controlled bass response. An optimised motor and suspension system ensure maximum linearity and minimal distortion, enhancing mid-range definition. The lightweight nature of the carbon fibre cone material also boosts transient speed and clarity, adding depth to the overall sound experience.
A highlight of the AE500 bookshelf speakers is Acoustic Energy's 500 Series tweeter, which boasts a brand new 25mm carbon fibre dome. This material, lighter and better damped than other typical hard dome materials, produces a lightning-fast, natural sound that surprises with its neutrality. Complementing the tweeter is a new cast aluminium WDT waveguide, positioned close to the mid/bass driver for optimum dispersion. This waveguide is extremely stiff to minimise vibration transfer to the tweeter, ensuring sweet, clear, and natural highs that are a delight to the ears.
Housing these unique Acoustic Energy drivers are the Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) cabinets. These cabinets, which have evolved from the brand's esteemed Reference Series, utilise a constrained layer composite to reduce cabinet acoustic radiation, thereby preventing sound colouration dramatically. This composite sees 3mm of bitumen sandwiched between two layers of MDF for fantastic results. Choose between high gloss Piano Black, Piano White, or American Walnut wood veneer finishes.
