Teac UD-501 DAC Dual Mono Digital To Analogue Converter In Silver. Teac have really pushed the way  forward with the new Teac Reference 500 DAC. They have heard the criticisms of the its predecessor and and addressed these with sensational results.

The simplest new feature is the addition of remote control and yes we know, its the 21st century and we couldn’t believe the old Reference 500 DAC didn’t have one too. Well this new addon enables you to take full control of the volume on the UD-503, switch inputs. Decide when to and not to up-convert , change the filter type plus you also have access to the menu all from your arm chair.

Next on the line up of new features which many craved for was a pair of RCA inputs enabling you to add an external analogue source for the DAC to work its magic. The UD-503 also has another new feature  with the inclusion of a 10MHz external master clock input, something which many have asked for who truly wish to play music to its most accurate timing.

Two other connections have also been included at the front, one to balance musical playback for headphones and the other is a 3.5mm Optical input for streaming from devices which utilise this input.

If  looking at the UD-503, then you’ll also know something about the DSD musical format or a least have heard of it! Well, Teac have doubled the playback ability from a 5.6MHz to 11.2MHz and increase the 24bit playback to 32bit. This has been done by using the legendary VERITA AK4490 chipsets, which has been designed by Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation for professional for high end audio, “Audio4pro” usage.

The UD503 also uses Teac's dual-monaural circuit structure which encompasses every aspect of the Teac UD503 from it power and D/A sections to its analog output stage. You’ll find that the independent, high-capacity toroidal core power transformers also deliver a stable unique current to the dual-monaural design without being affected from other forces, which can effect lesser built equipment.

Teac have also developed a new technology, named “TEAC-HCLD” (High Current Line Driver). This new technology is how Teac are transfer the inner musical signals to the output devices without losing any of its dynamic range. This technology also enables Teac  to include balanced headphone outputs, giving the UD-503 the potentials to work with many more types of high-end headphone. Don’t think that this has a detrimental effect on the single ended output headphones either, as Teac's, TEAC-HCLD also refines and clocks the playback to deliver a better musical experience.

So, Teac really have worked hard with the UD-503 which they had to as the predecessor was a quite unique in class for its playback ability, but with these advancements and new features, Teac have improved and refined this model to become the model its predecessor should have been.
