Monitor Audio's award-winning engineering pedigree comes to the fore with the new i-deck 200 iPod docking speaker. As background music in a second room, or you're turning it up to 11 at a party, the i-deck 200 more than covers bases - it blows them away with a sonic experience to defy belief.
Concentrating all the fidelity of Monitor Audio's award-winning audio engineering within a supremely intuitive design, the i-deck 200 delivers the power to party and sublime convenience all-in-one. Endowed with the accurate wide-band sound of much larger traditional HiFi systems, yet with all the virtues of the dock system genre, the i-deck 200 establishes a new standard of performance for compact systems, breath taking in its scale and quality. Dual 100mm C-CAM bass drivers individually powered by custom-configured 50W amplifiers and a brace of 25mm Gold dome tweeters, driven by precision-tailored 20W power amps will move the air like no other compact. You can rely on its innovative processing brain to generate the cleanest frequencies in any room from a purely digital iPod source. If you're seeking the last word in musical expression from a dock design, the i-deck 200 will spell it out.
Technology
APC®
Monitor Audio's engineers have developed a secret weapon for the i-deck called Automatic Position Correction. An integrated microphone measures irregularities caused by non-ideal room positions and uses a sophisticated Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to automatically adjust the i-deck to deliver the ideal sound - this is achieved automatically each time you turn on the system at the mains.
DSP
Because positioning of a speaker is so important in determining the sound that you hear, we have integrated a Digital Signal Processor into the i-decks which automatically adjusts the output based on the environment in which the i-deck has been placed. This intuitive process takes place automatically each time you power up the i-deck at the mains so you always hear the best possible sound, no matter what space restrictions you are working with.
DAC
In order to liberate all of the music on your iPod/iPhone, i-deck takes the digital stream from your iPod/iPhone to its own high quality 28/56 bit dual precision Digital-Analoge converter (DAC). By keeping data in the digital domain until the last seconds of processing, our engineers have succeeded in preserving the essence of the original digital master.
Gold Dome C-CAM®
The gold dome tweeter is formed from a ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy, gold anodised to a specific thickness for ideal stiffness and damping characteristics. Its new profile and surround geometry have been developed using advanced modelling tools, to provide the optimum qualities for accurate sound reproduction. The new design moves the first order of breakup to beyond 35kHz, producing a linear response way beyond audibility, which matches the wide frequency bandwidth available from HD music and cinema sound formats.
The gold dome is thinner, lighter, more rigid and therefore more efficient than domes made from other materials which are prone to distortion in the audio band.
C-CAM® Drivers
Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components. Its properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminium/magnesium alloy undergoes a three-stage stress-relieving process to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy cone is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to a depth of 50 microns, producing a completely rigid sandwich of alloy and heat-dissipating ceramic material.
Conventional cones are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM cones have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity over their entire operating range. C-CAM tweeters and woofers share an audible consistency producing a smooth transition of frequencies and a sense of realism and cohesion in the soundstage.
