The D-M38DAB is Denon's latest incarnation of their extremely popular micro system range. Taking over from the D-M37DAB, this new sibling carries forward many of the features while adding enough to warrant a re-badge. Not surprisingly this new model has already won a prestigious five star rating from What HiFi Sound and Vision Magazine and best mircrosystem up to £400 in 2011.
The new features include digitally transmitted play function for iPod and iPhone (via USB) for best sound quality, the latest DAB+ format, an easy timer setting and a new easy-to-use remote control handset. You can listen to music files from your iPod by simply connecting it to the RCD-M38's USB port with the USB cable that came with the iPod. If you plug an iPod into the RCD-M38's USB port while you're listening to the radio, for instance, music from the iPod will immediately start to play. Or if you just came home after listening to your iPod while you were out, the same track will continue to play when you plug the iPod into the RCD-M38. Digital signals from the iPod are transmitted as is to the RCD-M38 where they pass through the high-precision D/A converter and are processed by advanced audio circuitry to produce a clean, high-quality sound. The iPod or iPhone battery is even charged while the RCD-M38 is switched on.
DAB+ allows for more robust reception quality and is set to become the norm for all DAB broadcasts at some point in the future.
Other than these great new functions, the D-M38DAB has continued Denon's legacy of great sounding micro systems. Its 30W x 2 amplification and UK sound tuning gives a very pleasing smooth, dramatic sound for such a small unit.
