Our Thoughts
We were very impressed with these little brackets when they arrived in the office. At first glance you get a simple looking mount with an elbow type joint in the middle and a bag of screws (as you no doubt do with any decent mount). But the great thing about the Omnimount AB series is how adaptable and clever they are.
First of all, you get 3 different types of speaker fittings. The first is a simple bracket which enables you to screw directly to the rear of the speaker, especially handy for wooden cabinets. Then there is a small fixture with a hole which very cleverly can be used with supplied screw to fit keyhole type fittings and be tightened up. The same fixture can also be used to fix speakers with a single threaded hole (this includes Bose satellites). Lastly, there is also a threaded stud for speakers with a 1/4"-20 insert on the back.
Okay, so nothing special about those fixings then? Well, if you have ever used cheap brackets you will know what a pain it can be to fix the speaker in place when you have screwed the bracket to the wall (obviously you cant get your drill in if you attach speaker first). With the AB series you can fix one half to the wall and the other half to the speaker and then simply connect the two together with the supplied allan key, this is excellent design as it makes the job so much easier. You can also position and tilt the speakers once in place in the same way.
Okay, so now its sounding better? But what about distance from the wall or ceiling?? Because the kit comes in parts you can easily extend the brackets reach with the long mid section or if you want the speaker closer to the wall take this out altogether. There are slightly cheaper brackets on the market but for ease of fitting and supplied fixtures the Omnimount AB2 is unbeatable.
